How a Domain Sale and Transfer Works

Whether you purchase a domain through Buy It Now, win an auction, or have an offer accepted, completed marketplace sales follow a structured process designed to protect both buyers and sellers.

1. Sale Agreement

A buyer purchases the domain, wins the auction, or accepts an offer.

Once the transaction is confirmed, the listing is closed to other buyers and the seller is notified that a sale is in progress.

2. Invoice

An invoice is generated for the buyer showing the agreed purchase price and any applicable taxes or fees.

The seller is notified that the domain is awaiting payment.

3. Payment Clears

The domain does not move until the buyer's payment has been successfully received and cleared.

Depending on the payment method, this may happen immediately or after the funds have been received and verified.

If the buyer fails to pay within the specified payment period, the transaction may be cancelled and the seller may be allowed to relist the domain.

4. Domain Transfer

Once payment has cleared, the transfer process begins.

Domain Registered with ZillionKingHost

If the domain is already registered with ZillionKingHost, it can generally be transferred directly into the buyer's ZillionKingHost account, often within minutes, subject to any applicable domain or registry restrictions.

Domain Registered Elsewhere

For domains registered with another registrar, the seller must complete the required transfer steps.

This may include:

• Unlocking the domain

• Providing the required EPP/Auth code

• Completing any required transfer authorization

The buyer then uses the authorization information to initiate the transfer through their registrar.

External registrar transfers commonly take several days, depending on the registrar, registry, and whether additional approval is required.

5. Transfer Confirmation

The transaction is completed once the buyer confirms receipt of the domain or the marketplace detects that the transfer has successfully completed.

Additional verification may be required depending on the domain extension and transfer method.

6. Seller Payout

After the sale and transfer requirements have been satisfied, the seller's eligible proceeds are credited to their marketplace balance or account, less the applicable marketplace commission and any other applicable charges.

The seller can then use the available balance according to the marketplace's supported withdrawal or account-credit options.

Transactions involving money or an active sale may require manual review. This can take longer than an automatic cancellation or reversal, but it allows the situation to be properly investigated before a final decision is made.

Be aware of domain transfer restrictions when purchasing a domain.

Depending on the domain extension and the circumstances of the transfer, a recently registered, transferred, or ownership-changed domain may be subject to a 60-day transfer restriction.
