Selling a Domain Registered Somewhere Else

You don't necessarily need to transfer a domain to ZillionKingHost before listing it for sale.

If the domain is registered with another registrar, you can still list it on the ZillionKingHost Domain Marketplace, provided you can prove that you control the domain and can complete the transfer when it sells.

Add Your External Domain

From your client area, go to:

Domain Marketplace → Sell → Add External Domain

Enter the domain name and complete the listing information.

Verify Your Ownership

Before an externally registered domain can be listed for sale, you'll need to verify that you control it.

Depending on the verification method available, you may be asked to:

  • Add a specific DNS record to the domain

  • Confirm ownership through the domain's registrant email address

  • Complete another approved verification method

Follow the instructions provided in your client area and select Verify once you've completed the required step.

This verification process helps prevent unauthorized users from listing domains they do not own or control.

Listing Review

External domain listings may be reviewed before they become publicly visible.

The review can confirm that:

  • Domain ownership or control has been verified

  • Required information has been provided

  • The listing complies with marketplace requirements

  • The domain appears eligible for sale

Most verifications can be completed quickly. If something is missing or needs to be corrected, you'll receive instructions on what to do.

Check These Before Listing

Before putting an externally registered domain up for sale, make sure you can successfully deliver it to the buyer.

1. Check the Transfer Lock

Confirm that the domain is not subject to a 60-day transfer restriction resulting from a recent registration, transfer, or registrant/contact change.

If the domain is locked by registry or registrar rules, you may not be able to transfer it immediately after a sale.

2. Obtain Your EPP/Auth Code

Make sure you can obtain the domain's EPP/Auth code from your current registrar.

This code is normally required to transfer the domain to another registrar.

3. Maintain Access to the Registrant Email

Make sure the registrant/contact email associated with the domain is active and accessible.

Transfer authorization or approval messages may be sent to the appropriate domain contact.

What Happens When the Domain Sells?

Once a buyer purchases the domain or wins the applicable auction:

  1. The buyer's payment is collected.

  2. Payment must successfully clear according to the marketplace process.

  3. You receive instructions to prepare the domain for transfer.

  4. You unlock the domain if required.

  5. You provide the required authorization information, such as the EPP/Auth code.

  6. The buyer initiates or completes the transfer process.

  7. Once the transfer is confirmed, your eligible sale proceeds are released according to the marketplace's payment terms.

The buyer should not have to pay while relying solely on the seller's promise to deliver, and the seller should not have to release the domain without payment being secured.

The marketplace process is designed to protect both sides.

What If You Cannot Deliver the Domain?

If you discover that you cannot transfer the domain after accepting a sale, contact ZillionKingHost immediately.

Do not delay or attempt to keep the buyer's payment while resolving the issue.

If a seller accepts a transaction but cannot complete the transfer, the buyer may be refunded according to the marketplace rules, and the seller's account may be subject to selling restrictions, suspension, or other marketplace penalties.

Only list a domain when you're confident that you own it, control it, and can deliver it if it sells.
