How to Place a Backorder on a Domain

A domain backorder is a standing request asking ZillionKingHost to attempt to acquire a domain for you if it expires and becomes available for registration.

It is designed for domains that are currently registered to someone else but appear to be approaching expiration.

Placing a Backorder

Search for the domain in the ZillionKingHost Domain Market.

If the domain is currently registered and is not listed for sale, you may see the Backorder option.

Select it, review the applicable terms and pricing, and confirm your request. Any cost, payment requirement, or applicable fee will be clearly displayed before you commit.

What Happens After You Place a Backorder?

Once your backorder is active, ZillionKingHost monitors the domain and attempts to acquire it if it expires and is eventually released for registration.

If multiple ZillionKingHost clients place a backorder on the same domain and we successfully acquire it, the domain may enter a private auction exclusively for the eligible backorder participants.

This gives competing backorder customers an opportunity to determine who ultimately acquires the domain.

What a Backorder Is and Isn't

A backorder is not a reservation and does not guarantee that you will receive the domain.

The current registrant may renew the domain during the applicable renewal, grace, or redemption periods. Many domain owners do renew before the domain is released.

Even when a domain is eventually dropped, highly desirable names may be targeted by registrars, drop-catching services, and other buyers worldwide.

Think of a backorder as a serious attempt to acquire a domain, not a guarantee of ownership.

What Happens If We Don't Get the Domain?

If ZillionKingHost is unable to acquire the domain, you will not be charged for a domain we did not successfully obtain, except where the applicable backorder terms specifically state otherwise.

Any applicable fees, credits, refunds, or payment conditions will be handled according to the terms displayed when you place the backorder.

What Happens If We Get It?

If ZillionKingHost successfully acquires the domain and there is no competing backorder requiring an auction, the domain will be assigned to your account and you will be invoiced according to the agreed terms.

If multiple eligible customers have backordered the same domain, a private auction may take place first. The successful auction participant will then complete the purchase according to the marketplace process.

Be Prepared to Wait

A domain that expires today usually does not become available immediately.

Depending on the domain extension, registry policies, renewal grace periods, redemption periods, and deletion schedules, a domain may take several weeks or longer before it is released.

As a general guide, some domains may become available roughly 45–75 days after expiration, but this varies significantly by extension and registry.

Some extensions also have different lifecycle rules or no predictable drop timing.

Looking for a Domain That's Already in Use?

If the domain is actively being used for a website, business, email, or other services, there is a good chance the current owner intends to renew it.

In that situation, waiting for the domain to expire may not be the best strategy.

Consider contacting the owner through the marketplace and making an offer directly. A reasonable offer can sometimes get you the domain much faster than waiting and hoping it eventually becomes available.

Important Reminder

Backordering improves your opportunity to acquire an expiring domain, but it does not guarantee success.

Always review the domain's history, trademark considerations, reputation, and intended use before committing to acquire it.
